IMPACT
Professional Learning Program for Primary Teachers
Conducted by Primary Connections
The Australian Academy of Science (AAS) education program, Primary Connections: linking science with literacy is a proven, evidence-based initiative which contributes to building capacity for STEM teaching and learning. The program is shown to increase teachers’ aptitude and confidence teaching STEM, particularly when they can participate in targeted, sustained professional learning.
In consultation with the Invergowrie Foundation, Primary Connections has developed a unique, bespoke and sustained professional learning experience which includes four face-to face-workshops and an online community of practice for primary teachers. This year the program is open to teachers from our member schools.
Designed to build efficacy with teaching guided inquiry, and with a focus on Chemical and Physical sciences strands of the Australian Curriculum, the purpose of the program is to:
• empower primary teachers from our member schools in best practice approaches that deliver long term learning and support girls’ aspirations in science and STEM learning.
• build confidence and capacity for teaching science inquiry.
• support teachers to access resources and apply the Primary Connections approach in integrated teaching and learning of science.
• create an online community of practice which will enable new knowledge and understanding to be implemented in classroom practice.
