    The McPherson Family and Invergowrie Foundation Postgraduate Scholarship for Women in STEM.

    Anne Wang is the inaugural recipient of this scholarship and completed her research in June 2023.

    “My gratitude goes out to the Council of the Invergowrie Foundation for your continuous support of my PhD journey as I approach the end of my PhD journey.

    The advanced and detailed nature of my PhD study has been challenging, but I have been enjoying seeing how my research has developed over time as well as reaching many milestones despite the pandemic, including three flight and field campaigns in the Mallee, attending three international conferences, and publishing our work in one of the leading remote sensing journals – Remote Sensing of Environment (Impact Factor 13.85). The experience of observing problems and overcoming numerous obstacles to find solutions to each one is invaluable. I am grateful for all the support I have received from my supervisors and the MRIC.

    Earlier this year, I had my completion seminar, at which I received a lot of encouragement and had a great discussion about the potential of the work. As I am in the final stages of my PhD study, submitting my thesis in a week, my academic journey is just beginning. The following year, I will be a research fellow at the University of Melbourne, where I will continue to study vegetation monitoring using these advanced remote sensing techniques. We may explore vegetation status at a fine spatial scale with high-resolution imaging and use new satellite sensors with high spectral resolution in the future to enhance regional and global studies.

    Inspired by the McPherson Family and the Invergowrie Foundation, I will actively participate in early-stage research and practice sustainable agriculture wherever possible. This exciting journey will undoubtedly have a lasting impact on my research and personal life.”
