AMSI Industry Day for Teachers: Linking Classroom Maths to Future Careers
The Invergowrie Foundation is proud to support AMSI’s 2025 Professional Learning in Industry Days, an initiative aimed at building the capacity of teachers and career advisors to increase the engagement of girls in STEM education. This program provides participants with knowledge and resources to inspire students, particularly female students and those from underrepresented backgrounds, to pursue mathematics and STEM careers.
Taking place over five days across Victoria—two in Melbourne and three in regional locations—the events will provide teachers and career advisors with essential insights into the role of mathematics in future careers. The days will include sessions from industry, tertiary education providers, AMSI’s in-house maths teaching specialist, Q&A panel sessions, as well as industry site visits.
Part of this initiative is the opportunity for Schools to host an AMSI Family Maths Night, an engaging event led by AMSI’s maths teaching specialist designed to deepen understanding of current teaching practices, to emphasise the importance of mental computation strategies and to inspire families to support their child’s mathematical learning in everyday life.
Through this program, AMSI and The Invergowrie Foundation are equipping educators with the knowledge and tools to talk to their students about the exciting and expanding career opportunities that depend on maths and STEM skills. The aim is to inspire students to continue their study of maths, opening doors to the growing STEM workforce and securing their future economic prospects. Delivering this essential program regionally is important and aligns with AMSI and The Invergowrie Foundation’s shared commitment to supporting female students from regional, rural, First Nations, and low SES backgrounds – groups that remain underrepresented in mathematical sciences and the broader STEM workforce.
